Best piece of advice you have ever recieved about fishing.

I'm sure that a lot of you have received a ton of advices over the years you have been fishing.

The best one I've ever gotten was when I was still new to fishing, and my dad took me to buy my first ever rod and reel. Well I was still a kid back then and wanted the fanciest looking stuff that I saw. When my dad saw me walk back with a 9 ft rod and really expensive reel, he told me to put it back and that he would find me a much more suitable one.

Well, as you may have guessed, I protested and whined a lot (hey, I was barely 10 back then). He then told me something that I hold very dear to this day.

"Roger, fish arent going to take your bait just because you have some fancy and expensive fishing gear."

With that said, I returned that rod and reel and I let the man choose what he thought was best for me. Well eventually, once I mastered that kit, I graduated to baitcasters and right now, the gear that I use is almost exclusively baitcasting. I do have a small spinning rod and reel just for one of those days where I want something different.

exactly, the more complicated the rig the quicker it will tangle, good tip,

best advice i was ever given by a pike angler many years ago was " dont neglect the margins "

often the fish are right under your feet, keep quiet and you might catch them

It's fishing not catching! Take time to appreciate everything that goes along "with a days fishing".
