Yes I agree, that is what I call "Location".

No of course not, but even you agreed that "to improve your chances you need to look for the gulley, sandbar or mussel bed" first before you throw a good bait out"

So yes I think you are right 'Location' does come first closely followed by a good bait.

Anyway I'm off home to get my gear ready for the river now, I enjoyed our discussion, tight lines.

If you are not getting any bites, light a cigarette, if you haven't had a bite by the time it's finished. make a cup of tea, if you haven't had a bite by the time it's finished, go for a pi=s. half way through, you are sure to get a bite.

Re: Best piece of advice you have ever recieved about fishing.

The best rig and the best bait aren't any good fished in a place there are no fish. Try it. Go to your local swimming pool and cast every bait you can think of. Result! No fish because there are no fish there.

Now if you cast your bait where fish either are or are likely to be at some point THEN the bait and rig thing gets to be most important.

One other thing that I did forget , and the Anglers Mail this week reminded me is CONFIDENCE.

Again the legend that was Ivan Marks said it was the second man stood with him and without it everything else falls apart.

So good location , good bait , good rig and confidence, unless the fish really are switched off, you'l l catch.

Re: Best piece of advice you have ever recieved about fishing.

Someone has already mentioned the one I figured out years ago (and proved earlier) , if you want the really big fish to bite then pour a cup of tea and then balance it so you can't move.
