Choosing Leader/Backing

Hello Fellow Fishers,
I'm making a transition into braided lines and I've been reading about needing backings and leaders. I'm using a Quantum SL40 reel and plan on using PowerPro 10lb test as my main and Trilene 100% Fluoro 10lb test as a leader. Sound good so far? As far as backing goes does it really matter, or just something to prevent slipping? Thanks in advance.
