knots

with me being a pleb & only looking like i know what i'm doing (as per fish species team name), knots aren't my strong point & something all beginners & i'm sure some more experienced anglers have in common.
as i was only ever taught the 1 knot to tie hooks & continued to use that even to this day, i learnt a new 1 that was printed on the back of a hook packet (drennan i think), which i use to tie swivels as it said it's stonger.
this forum & magazines have been very usefull, not only with showing rigs, but also some have shown how to tie other knots, as well as other info.
i believe i was using a form of grinner knot as taught to tie hooks to my line. not sure what the other knot i've been using (was as it wasn't named) to tie swivels.
i can now tie a sliding stop knot, just need to test it out when i'm next fishing.
1 bought 1 of those knot tier things (thinking it might make it a bit easier to teach my brother in law to tie hooks) & i myself have been practicing knotless knots & hair rigs.
also in the magazines, i've read what weights each size of split shot equates to (i always just used to put the number of shot the float said on the line, so if 4bb, i'd spread 4 bb along the line) but now, i can work out different shotting patterns & hopefully improving my float fishing excursions.
so not only are the magazines & this forum full of very usefull information, obviously on the bank, i can't carry round my pile of magazines & laptop, so for my convenience & to act as a reminder, i got my marker pen to write the split shot table & knot diagrams on the inside lid (it makes a great whiteboard).
it looks 1 of the magazines is doing a different knot each month, so when i get the next issue, i'll be practicing, then drawing the diagram on my lid.
i know this sounds an obvious thing to do, almost to the point of being stupidly obvious, but i've found it a great help when on the bank & suffering brain fade on a knot i've been practicing, or working out my shotting pattern.
