Fishing line and hooks

Hi,

im just starting out and wondered if there was any rule of thumb with line strength and hook size. I intend to load both newly purchased reels but am confused as to what I should put on my feeder rod and what on my float rod. could someone clue me in.

im just gonna be fishing genral coarse initially maybe also doing some pike fishing on another rod.

Re: Fishing line and hooks

depends what you are targeting ? if just after roach on the feeder then 4lb mainline with a 1 lb hook length ? but if bigger then you will need to scale up

Thumbs up Re: Fishing line and hooks

r ite pal the best advice is to go to your local tackal shop and tel them where you going an what baits you will be using but here goes.float rod u want 3lbs maxima line, if using maggots you want size 20 barbless because most fisheries you have to use barbless, 20s are good for small fish up to 3lbs, 18s are next size up its all about balancing your gear to the size of fish your catching ? for the feeder rod i would go 4lbs .if you cant tie hooks dont worry you can buy them tyed for you at the tackleshop.hope this helps you pal. good luck and tight lines.
