rod rests

evening guys , well my set up is on order cheap but as gear goes its only as effective as the angler , now what im looking for is the rests for the rod , now i will mainly be targeting carp, and need a 2 rod rest that i have seen on reports , that allows 2 rods to lay flat straight , about a foot off the ground , somehow my 6 ft tripod wouldnt be good enough , any help would be great !!

lee.

p.s dont tell the sea boys as i am getting a lot of stick lol

Re: rod rests

Lee, you don't need a rod pod. A couple of bank sticks will do the job just fine!
If you really want a rod pod something like this should do for a start.

There is really no need to go over the top on gear until you are sure of what you want.

Re: rod rests

All you need for rod rests mate is a couple of old Zipplex or Conoflex rods, chop em up with a hacksaw into about 4' lengths, sharpen one end with a penknife & a bit of U shape alloy made from an old ABU Mag elite glued to the other end. Nothing fancy, just functional.... Carp ain't fussy

Thumbs up Re: rod rests

Oh I nearly forgot, the handle section of an old redundant beachcaster, makes a great throwing stick for 10mm Boilies....

lol nice!

lee forget the pod mate (ther only handy if fishing a hard surface)
with sticks you can point your rod directly at your bait aiding bite indication
also they can be in the water if needed. just get some telescopic ali ones
most have a female screw tip to attach alarm if needed, but will say get some with the screw tips as this cuts noise right down when getting them into frosty or hard baked bank (dont want any banging mate its not the bloody beach ya know ) get them any half decent tackle shop mate.

Re: rod rests

Cheers geffski , i guess i need to check out the bank sticks , as yes it makes sense that you can only use the pods on flat ground , do i really need bait alarms ????? dont you boys sit there watching your rods in anticipation or do you set the bait alarm and have a kip ??? that has always fathemed me as i would be quite alert and always paying attention, but if it was a weekend sesh then things would be different !!!!

Re: rod rests

nah dont need alarms, a quiver tip is great fun, set it so the buts up and the tip is nearly
touching the surface, you will get some absolut stonking bites like this but dont stray from your
rod! even a little carp of a few pounds will have it in!

alarms ar great in ther place, if im doing an alnighter ill set 2 up
and read a book/eat drink/have a kip in the bivvy (ill usualy be trying to target the bigger fish as being harrased by bream and baby carp alnight aint good) ther good in the day also ill set 1 alarm up as a sleeper at range and fish a waggler on the other to keep it intresting and bag up on thos tench and bream and bonus carp!
