| I have noticed that bait companies are now promoting chilli hemp and other similar flavours, my ear is not too close to the ground as to the carp scene for new baits , (so apologies for any repeats I make of other posts)but thought I'd make my first post, one that might be of interest. There are 5 domesticated strains of chilli, the most common is Cap Annuum. I think this is one used for flavouring. It has a OK flavour, but often described as dry. Commercial growers mainly grow these as they produce a harvest about a month earlier, but I feel that some of the more unusual varieties would be better attractors. Cap Chinensis, which is the hottest has a strong fruity flavour. (Fish, like birds don't have (I think) pain receptors in the mouth, so won't feel the burn). These incluse the famous Scoth Bonnets and Habanero's. If you have a local store which does these, they would make a great additive to baits. If you know any keen gardeners who might grow some for you, have ago, but be careful handling them. Wear gloves when slicing, ask the wifes permission before playing in the kitchen, if required. I think the same thing would go for handling chilli hemp. I have blinded myself for periods of about 30 mins after wiping eyes after handling chillies. Be careful before answring the call of nature too! I have had good days when I gone fishing after playing with lots of chilles, De-seeding(they are someting of an obsession with me). I have not done any proper experiments, I shall try to do so this year and will post results. Tight Lines |
