I bought this reel about 4 years ago as I was looking for a reliable reel that could handle wrecking and rough ground boat fishing


Features
The reel is of a good size, not to big or heavy and sits nicely on the rod.


Lever Drag – A must for all boat fishing reels; it has smooth action and is easily adjusted. The best thing about lever drag reels is that you have much more control over the fish, increasing or decreasing the drag with a simple push of the lever. Much easier than the traditional star drag system

Line retrieval – With a gear ratio of 5,2:1 comes in nice and quick. On the Shimano Charter Special TR1000 Lever Drag you also have a line feed that sets the line nice and evenly back onto the spool when retrieving, which saves using your thumb.

Build Quality – It’s as solid as a rock and I have never had any problems using this reel. My maintenance is shamefully bad as I wash it under the tap when I get home and that’s it (That will be the kiss of death)

good write up there, why would you say level drag is a must for boat work??
isnt it abit anoying because if you are like me you will set the clutch to let line out a set speed when casting to avoid birds nests and then when waiting for a bite i will have it set so i shouldnt have to adjust it much if i hook into a decent fish

Shimano Charter Special TR1000 Lever Drag is a boat reel , hence the word charter special so no casting needed

i realised it was aboat reel but you still have to let line out at a controled pace to get the line down to the bottom

Ben remember when you were on the boat mate , you released the clutch to let the line go down and then clicked it back on

i am i right in thinking that a level drag reel doesnt have a switch to release the clutch fully like star drag but has just a switch thingy to controll the drag
