Don't ignore you local tackle shop

I went in to my local shop (Fullers in Dorking) this morning and he was selling Shimano (10,000) Baitrunners for a fiver less than most mail order firms. Taking into account I wouldn't pay postage, could check it over and have a chat, thats a bargain in my book! In fact most of the stuff I've bought from there in the last year has been comparable or cheaper than mail order.

Cheers
Rob

Thumbs up Re: Don't ignore you local tackle shop

I buy most of my gear on that infernal ebay, but I have still to find shimano reels for less than at my local tackle shop (outwood angling centre).
I have just bought an exage 4000 for £40 and when you consider that you can have a look first, talk to the owner, get his opinion and there no carriage to pay thats quite a deal. So I'm with you for the expensive stuff you may as well have a look around locally before trying on-line!

Re: Don't ignore you local tackle shop

Hi Rob,

My local shop charges top prices for everything. I've been in time and time again to buy odds and ends but their prices are extortionate. I use a little shop in Hemel Hempstead, but only on occasions, for my swivels. They have a fantastic range of blackened stainless steel ones that are small and strong, best that I have come across yet.

I buy everything else by mail order, large items i.e. rods and reels from Poingdestres in Southampton, Hooks, Jellies and Redgills etc. from Roger Bayzand and all my braid from Braid Direct. My weights and booms are all made made by a member of the Forum.

Cheers

Drew

I,m lucky. I live in a small village (Dilton Marsh) where a small commercial fishery has recently opened. The new owner Chris Haines has also opened a really well stocked tackle shop on the site. If he is closed & you need anything, you only have to knock on the door of his house. He's a consultant for Sharpes of Aberdeen tackle manufacturers too. Still get a bit of stuff on ebay, although i'm still waiting for three reel cases that I won 2 weeks ago & that i,ve paid for via Pay-Pal. Thats the down side of internet auctions.

Re: Don't ignore you local tackle shop

We have a few good tackle shops around here with prices that match most mail order firms, considering that you dont have to pay postage. Most of them offer good advice too. There is one that I dont go to unless I have to. Once you`ve fought your way through the army of `hangers on`and waded through the fag smoke (you feel like you`ve smoked 10 before you even get served) you feel the daggers going in if someone even hints about giving you any local info........Its quite funny actually because whenever you seem to ask the question..." Anything decent being caught ?" or "What fish are in?" theres never anything....strange.

Re: Don't ignore you local tackle shop

just been to my local tackle shop and for about the 100th time they don,t have what i need.
i can,t believe a company as big as them and who own three or four other shops in the area can,t stock there shelfs so anglers can get what they need really gets me that does ,especially as the same excuse is allways the same
well i better make up all my smoothhound hook snood with 1/0 aberdeens then and hope they will hold

tightlines
