what reel

can anyone suggest a good reel for uptiding, quite fancy abu 7000 or penn 535 but the latter doesnt have level wind. is it alsoan issue to consider retrieve speed, any help would be appreciated.

Re: what reel

Abu 7000 HSN is the biz for uptiding, high speed retrieve is essentilal to gather the line loop quickly one you`ve had a bite.Levelwind just makes it easier to handle ,you haven`t got to worry about laying line in the heat of playing a good fish. And as your only casting 30 yards or so when uptiding there`s no issue of loosing distance because of the levelwind.....

Abu 7000 HSN
I got one a few months ago ; have tried a few others but the Abu 7000 HSN seems to fit just right with uptiding . Not to big not to small ect

Mike recomended it and when a guy fishes so much uptiding , you just know its not wrong

just got to catch a bloody fish on it now

Re: what reel

Hi Peter.

The 7000's are really good reels. However keep well away from the Abu 7000 C4. That is the one with the level wind and lever drag.
I have retruned mine 3 times to Abu now. I also know a few other poeple that have done the same. The level wind and the lever drag keep jamming. And yes I do maintaine them :-)

Good point, the C4 isn`t a favorite of mine either,i do know a few guys who swear by them as well......I just can`t get used to the lever system....

Re: what reel

Hi Everyone,

I am new here and I hope I can pick your brains about the ABU 7000 series. I've tried looking on the net to find the info but no luck. And even Abu-Garcia home page only have info on the newer products. And not much luck with my local tackle shop either.

Can anyone tell me about the difference in color between the Red and the Gold in the ABU 7000 series? as I am thinking of getting one. And I have also been told that from the 7000 series onwards, i.e. the "Big Game" reels are now manufactured in the east and not in Sweden, is this true?
