| Travel beach rods Bought a Fox Trek 11'6" travel beachcaster (£69) for the winter. I'm really impressed so far. First time I've seen a multi-piece beach rod that could take some serious stick. Fine tip, good rings,winch fitting, foam grips, 6 piece, 28 inches collapsed, with hard case provided. It will even fit in a rucksack if you're going rockhopping. Good rings and what appears to be very strong spigot construction. Wasn't keen on the large foam grips-removed them and the rod seems to balance in the hands better now. Have cast up to 6 ozs comfortably and fished very rough ground-seems to take the strain well. It's a bit on the (top) heavy side, but great as a travel/second rod, or when you need to stow the tackle out of sight in the car boot. Can also recommend the Penn Voyageur/V3 12 'three piece. I think it's now rebadged as the Surfblaster Sea Trek. Comes with a heavy and light tip. Much lighter and better balanced rod than the Fox, but will still cast up to 6 ozs. Action and tip not particularly suited to pendulum casting, but can manage it. Nice rod for surf/ heavier spinning/estuary/ light beach. All the deals seem to involve a Penn Mag in the pricing, but I think the rod is better suited to a lighter reel (65000/7HT size) .I would barter for a rod only price-should be no more than £70. Hope this helps people, as I've wasted money on rubbish before and It's nice to find some gear that's good value and does what it's supposed to do.     |

| Re: Travel beach rods Mike. Can't really tell much difference from two-piece rods with regard to the action. I thought the six piece trek might feel a bit weird, i.e. a few dead spots, but thats not the case at all. They both seem to have the correct curve and feel nice. Have only caught fish up to about 3 lbs on them, but they handle them like any other good two piece. I've lifted small fish up the wall on them as I would with normal rods and they show no signs of damage (touch wood!). Regards, Bill. |

Top quality beach rods in X wrapped graphite for superb extra strength. All have a cloth bag plus a smart black protective high quality hard tube.
