ABU 7000C3 Ambassadeur Review

ABU 7000C3 Ambassadeur - After using this reel for some 6 months I thought I would do a little write up of my thoughts

First impressions ABU 7000C3 was that it is quite a big reel but very light to handle. Its solid build quality will mean that if you look after it I see no reasons why it will not last you a life time

The ABU 7000C is marketed as an all-round sea fishing reel suitable for all the anglers needs

Bit of the Tech stuff
Gear Ratio 4:1:1
3 stainless steel bearings
Synchronized level wind System
Line Lay system
Precision Brass Gears
Line out Alarm ( it clicks )
reel weight: 17.9oz
line Capacity: 325 yds / 17lb

From the shore
Well as said it is a big reel but even with my little hands found it was easy to control with a little practice and that the distance was good although with my limited casting ability could not match other shore reels like Penn 525 ect

I personally think that this is not for the shore line as you can see from above the Gear Ratio 4:1:1 is to low to get you out of trouble on rocky or ruff ground and if you’re hitting 130 yrd plus it seem to take a year to get your fish in

Saying that for clean water / pier fishing you cannot go far wrong and with its easy to follow mag set up guide that comes with the reel , bird nest are easily avoided

From the boat
This is where the reel belongs !! With its large spool and line feed the powerful gears can take on anything . The large star drag means even when you fingers are wet you can quickly find the drag .

I have used the ABU 7000C with both mono and braid and have found no problems bar the odd time when the line has got under the spool ( in fairness that’s down to the setting up of the reel but its seems to have a tendency to drift out so I now check several times a trip )

Having used the ABU 7000C on both down tiding and up tiding I find I most comfortable using it with a up tiding combination as its solid build and line lay makes life easy

Abu in action

The good
Solid reel will last a life time if looked after
Nice and Light
Fare price for what you get

The Bad
Line can get caught under spool ( setting up problem I know but once set should not happen again )
Could do will better gear ratio but I new that when I bought them

For £100-£130 the ABU 7000C3 Ambassadeur is a good reel for the boat angler I will be looking forward to many years of fishing with it .

Rating
Quality 4/5
Price 4/5

Would I recommend It - Yes

So have you any views on this reel as it would be great to see what everyone else thinks of it

Nice write up there mate, sounds a good reel. Also, it looks pretty lush in that photo.

Think I may start doing some reviews soon too.

Re: ABU 7000C3 Ambassadeur Review

Hi Richard,

I've been using both the 7000 and the 7500 now for over ten years and find both of them a treat to use. As yet I have never caught my line under the spool, so I cannot agree with you on that one. The line ratio is in the spec. so, as you say, you know what to expect before you buy.

I have a spare spool for each of them with different poundage of braid on three of the spools and 25lb straight through mono on the other for uptiding. This combo covers all my boat fishing needs.

I clean them after each trip, and strip them down after four trips and re-oil the bearings. This keeps them in pristine condition. I found that the bearing on the handle mechanism benefits from this more so than the spindle bearings.

These reels are used on the East Coast of Scotland for beach work, so I have been informed. They seem to be used up there more than any other reel. Perhaps some of our Scottish based members can elaborate???

I cannot fault them in any way and as far as marks out of 10, I give them both 10.

Cheers

Drew

Hi Richard - I wasn't aware that the 7000 reels were fitted with a mag braking system. Do they have a mag race inside the sideplate but no external adjustment control. Could someone please elaborate on this? Thanks.
