Abu Renegade question? Does any one have an opinion of or any information about the 12' Abu Renegade beach rod? I think it's rated at 4-6 ounces but I'm not sure. Also any info on the 12' Abu Premium rod (1-3ounces) would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Abu Renegade question? Hi Lucky, I have an Abu Renegade F/S 12' Beach rod. It's rated at 6-8oz though, so I'm not sure if it's the same one you have in mind? Given its rating, you can probably guess that it is quite a stiff rod. I have only used 5oz and 6oz sinkers with it and find it too stiff for me to compress properly to do it justice, casting wise. A stronger/better caster using heavier weights or a pendulum and willing to hurt his index finger (Ouch!) should be able to send the lead out a fair bit further than I can though. I find the rod useful for fishing strong currents or rough mixed/ground where it can be necessary to snatch the lead up sharply and retrieve quickly above any snags to avoid losing too much tackle. I also use it as my main pier rod because it doesn't fold if you don't have a drop net and need to haul a lunker (Yeah, right!) or more usually a number of mackerel, up the side of the pier. The rod seems well finished and has duplon type grips and the luminous green Fuji rings. I notice from your profile that you're based in London. Whereabouts do you fish? Cheers, Mule

Re: Abu Renegade question? Thanks Mule - that's all very helpful - the one I have in mind is rated at 4-6 oz so it's probably not as stiff as yours and would probably suit my purposes. I'm based in South London and where I go fishing depends when and for how long I can get away. If it's a week or so I head down to the Teign estuary otherwise for just a day it would be Hastings or Samphire Hoe where my mate and I are planning to head on Saturday. I've only just found out about this spot and as we can probably get there by car in about an hour from London (also bait is conveniently available nearby in Dover all day Saturday and up to 1pm on Sunday which is handy) we'll probably be using this as often as possible over the next few months although that won't be often enough.
