Thumbs up Lenser H7 Headlamp review

Just thought i'd put up a little review of this headlamp

I've been through a few headtorches but this is the best i've ever had

heres the official jargon
---------------------------
LED LENSER H7 Advanced Focus System headlamps combine a unique lens and reflector system to provide stageless transition from a broad flood beam to a focused spot beam. The Advanced Focus System flood beam provides a broad circular beam of light that illuminates larger, close-up areas and eliminates dark spots in the center common in traditional focusing headlamps. The Advanced Focus System spot beam provides a sharply focused beam that illuminates more distant areas. This Coast LED Lenser headlamp features Variable Light Output Technology (VLT) that enables the user to adjust the light output to suit the task. Lower light levels illuminate close-up areas and conserve batteries, while higher light levels illuminate areas that are further away.

Specifications:
Effective until 160 meter
Lightintensity: 160 Lumen / 4.45W (New version)
Battery life: Up til 75 hours (in power save)
Weight: 117g
Uses 3 x AAA (Included)
Sheath included

Features:
- Advanced Focus System
- VLT - Variable Light Output Technology
--------------------------------------------

heres my take
firstly at £49 its not the cheapest , or £59 for the rechargeable

but I hunted on good old evilbay and got the non rechargeable ( with free small torch that is incredibly bright as well and stays in car ) for £35, and a set of stay charge rechargeable aaa batteries for £5 ..I already had battery charger

I didnt know if i would like the dimmer on the back of head where the 3 aaa batteries are , but its dead easy and you hardly ever use, the focus is good , its very bright on max and tight focus, usually i only use 1/2 flood and 1/2 dimmer. the batteries have just been recharged for first time today and i've had for 4 months now, and that to me is pretty good( especially as i'm usually out 2 or 3 times a week and 99% of my fishing is in dark)

it also comes with its own pouch to tuck it into , so it dosent accidently turn on in tackle bag

the only thing that maybe gives it a half point off max is that the headband is not very long , so was orriginally quite tight when wearing hat as well. but that eased off very quickly..so no points off

so its small, light, very powerfull and good battery life,

would i recommend......yes
would i get another.....yes
good value.................yes
review................... ...10/10

Re: Lenser H7 Headlamp review

If you think the Lenser is a good headtorch for the money then this should interest you pingu. I could never justify spending a lot of money on a headtorch hence why searching for a half decent headtorch that wasnt too badly priced lead me to ebay. There was a few that i was interested in but were from either Hong Kong or China but for the price i thought what the hell & went for it. It turned out to be great & ordered a few more for spares with never a problem with either of them nor delivery (except the delivery takes a while usually between 11-23 days but with free delivery i cant really fault that). So having confidence with ordering from these locations i decided to upgrade after a while & came across the Cree LED 300LM zoomable headtorch, it also comes with 2 of the larger 2400mAH rechargeable batteries + a charger. I believed it to be a copy of the Lenser but what made me laugh is that when fishing a club comp i was pegged next to a guy with a lenser to which my headtorch was twice as bright (understandably if you look at the specs). Needless to say he & 7 others now have these headtorches all for the price of £13.79 with free p&p. & meeting up for comps regularly speaking to the guys no one has ever had any kind of fault with them whatsoever. They have just brought out a 600LM version to which i purchased & tested (costs slightly more) which has a slightly brighter light intensity but only slightly noticeable when comparing alongside the 300LM version. Batery life is excellent, i've used one for 2 sessions before needing recharging. But that was only using the strong brightness mode when needed & using normal brightness for the rest. Also the zoom function can produce a very focused bright beam which is also very handy. All in all an awesome headtorch which for a single battery i've not seen anything nearly as bright & for the price you cant go wrong.

Hope you enjoy

Re: Lenser H7 Headlamp review

They are brilliant head lights the H7, I have found them on a site selling for £12-£15. At first I thought they were copies but have been informed that they are made in the same factory as they H7 but have a different head band.
I have loads of different highly rated head lights in the past but now own three of these and would not buy anything else.

I also have to comment on Neil's post about the cree, what a pain in the arse these are if your fishing next to sombody who is using one. Its nice to see in the dark but you dont need a suntan and end up blind for the next few hours. Have had many a word with my partner in crime who uses one of these.

I will post up the link to the H7 later on.
