If moneys a bit short, i've always found it's better to buy quality second hand fishing tackle rather than cheap new stuff. Dragon Carp stuff is pretty naff. You are doing the right thing by seeking advice first though. A lot of Tackle shops stock second hand gear & are happy to advise.

hi buddy have a deco on flea bay see if you can pick up a john wilson twin tip gret all round rod ,i keep one in the car for when i take the dog for a walk up the river its a great tool

Second what's already been said here as I bought one of my favourite float rods second hand at the tackle shop. Don't forget that , unlike you, there are a load of people out there who do not seek advise and buy tons of gear only to trade it in. If it's reels then you'd do a lot worse than checking out Okumas. I'v ehad a couple for a year or two now and was impressed.

Okuma reel are as good as shimano in my opinion i had 3 original epix eb 60 colour silver gave them to my neph wen some one gave me 4 emcast 4500 reels they are still on the game ,,i also own three okuma nitrix 400 multipliers , i have let friends use them and they say they are as good as the abu 6500 had some big fish on them and they chuck ,,,,i think we get fooled by the better marketing stratergy by the bigger firms most the reels on the market today are made in factories in taiwan china ect mitchells (china) ,there is some cheap dross out there okumas definatly arnt they are good affordable reliable pieces of kit,,shimano are on the other hand over priced i think thats y they brought out the cheaper range to compete what you get is less bearings same crap bait runner system ,okuma epix 10 bearings silk smooth bulletproof bait runner and nice looks and spare spool for 3rd of the price of a good shimano

Hi all my first post to this forum, thanks for having me here.

They sell Fox Stratos 7000 reels on ebay for £41.99 + £6-99 postage.

Not sure what they are like but they have:
4.75:1 gear ratio,
15 ball bearings and a roller bearing,
518m of 0.24mm 6lb and 305m of 0.30 10lb line with two reducers they become 335m of 0.24mm and 213m of 0.30mm line also 243m of 0.24mm and 152m of 0.30mm line,
Twin and single handles,
Spare spool,
Twist free roller
Free spool,
and weighs 522 grams.

If anyone knows if they are any good please feel free to add.
