| Re: greys g-mag's. reveiwed? I have 2 of them and they are better than my ABU 6500s Mags which required regular up gear changes. They do need some prevenative maintenance before use. The ring which allows the quick release for the spool need removing and and good coat of water resistant grease ( I used litium based ). The Mag lever also needs a clean with a scalpel to remove the last bits from the moulding and some silicone grease to get it operating smoothly. After that I took it up the local field for a few practise casts. To start with it did not "take off" like my ABUs. I backed off the Mag to halfway, better but still not good. I whacked a few more casts and went home dissapointed. I then cleaned the bearings in Alcohol in a mini ultrasound cleaner meant for jewelry. Then a quick wash with lighter fluid and lubed with 3 in 1. What an improvement ! Smooth and fast casting. beat the ABUs by 25 yards on a 5oz lead. The retrieve is a little slow but the gear design without the anti-reverse means that it should last forever if you grease it regularly. A bargain for £60 or less ! |
