The "OKUMA SHEFFIELD"

I bought a Sheffield LTD Edition, not to struck on the gold anodising, some will love it some will not, but I dont care, for £89.99 a bargin, out of the box it did not spin for very long so,,I Cleaned most of the "grease" out of it and added a tiny drop of gun oil it now spins much longer and smoother, I dont do much trotting but have bought this reel for close range carp/tench and just because I like pins,Saturday it was very windy on my club carp lake, but loaded with BERKLEY 5.4 BS line and matched to a power 13' waggler it was crap,,,I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND IT, it just felt all wrong the line floated although I had sprayed it with sink, I had a bad day, one carp and two roach (aprox 1lb) so,, back to the drawing board, I Scraped the line and loaded it with Sufix Xcelon 8lb,and decided to use my North Western 1.5tc barbel rod on Sunday, a two swan waggler casted well, I EVEN GOT 15 YDS WITH A TYPE OF WALLIS CAST, But the wind got very strong, so,,,,I stuck a one ounce ledger on, three fingers of line and a little bat got 25 yds aprox, I fished with a home brewed monkey, to show the drop back, never needed it,,, SCREAMMMMMMM, 8LB common carp, the reel was very nice to play the fish on, caught six carp but for some unknown reason I also lost 5 bigger fish very unusual, once I have a fish hooked it usualy stays hooked, two gripes,, spin the reel and look at the drum (handles) something is not quite true, as I can see slight movement in the drum, gripe two, when you have hooked a fish its not easy to turn the check off, but I will get used to that, all in all a very well made reel for the money, I just need to learn to cast a bit better.

Re: The "OKUMA SHEFFIELD"

The Sheffield is a class piece of engineering and for the normal price is good value. At your reduced price, even better, well done!

If it's new I'd be a bit concerned if it didn't run smooth and true straight from the box, maybe it's been dropped, banged or similar and has knocked it off "square". If so, it should be replaced without any questions.

It's a superb reel for close in margin work as well as trotting with a variety of floats and for all sorts of targets. I found mine ran far too smooth for most of my trotting work but it's just about right now after two years without cleaning it and just the right amount of maggot dust, mud and river residue around the back plate!
