torium 14

Bought this as a replacement to my 525 mag slidy which should have been retired 2 years ago but i'm a complete tackle tramp... if its still working i'll use it although i was nearly down to a strip down every month so out came the wallet.

1st impressions wow!!!

compared to the 525 its like putting a land rover next to a landcruiser!!!

so smooth compared to the agricultural feel of the 525.

cast straight out of the box as well as the 525 which is where i thought it would struggle.

drag is one of the best i have come accross, silky smooth, no jagging of the spool.

mine is loaded with 18lb blackice and a 60lb leader, it is at home on my bass rod which is what i will be using it for primarily on the gower coast which is as rough as a badgers arse.

will also take it out on the lady helen and send 8oz leads uptide in the hope of rays, hounds, congers and cod.

wish i had bought it years ago now...

well hope it lasts 9years like the 525!!!

Re: torium 14

Thought i'd give this a bit of an update

The torium is still going strong, i'm enjoying using this even more now. Its had a thorough work out over the last 12 months including congers, smoothhounds, rays and some good bass. I've used it over ground that is rough to say the least and have used it uptiding.

I can safely say it hasn't missed a beat...casts like a dream, now it has centrifugal brakes not mags and i think i've only had a couple of birdies since using it it is that easy to use. It is one of the easiest reels i have ever used for casting and that even includes the green 6500 c3 ctmag elite.

distance wise i can cast as far if not further than when i used my old 525 mag...mainly because i have the confidence to really belt it rather than always having that little nag in the back of my head that the 525 will bite you every once in a while (normally once a session)...so the torium is a joy to use at night.

Maintenace wise, like all top end shimano multipliers it doesn't need a lot.
You can take the end plate off the opposite side to the handle to engage or disengage any of the 6 brake blocks, also giving access to the spindle bearings.

the only thing i would change is the spring loaded clicker that sits in a hole on the handle beneath the star drag...this is a right pain in the arris to get back in.....
