Mitchell Avocet 6500

Whilst fishing down near Bridport a week or so back, the anti reverse on one of my fixed spool beach reels packed up. So in order that I could continue fishing two rods, I nipped into a west bay tackle shop & bought one of these.

The Mitchell Avocett 6500

Has anyone else on the Forum used one of these or know anything about them? Personally I think it's a bit light for some of the beach fishing that I do, so i'm thinking about using it for a Spod or Marker reel for Carp fishing. It appears to be reasonably well specced with the following features:

- 2 low lipped longcasting spooled reel, comes with
1-spool-ideal for general fishing cap 250yds .32 (15lb mono) and
1-spool-ideal for braid with no backing or lighter mono say 250yds .25(12 lb mono)

3 high performance corrosion resistant ball bearings
1 stainless steel ionstant anti reverse
double saltwater corrosion treated
stainless stell main shaft
worm gear oscillation
multi disc drag system with stainless stell washers
spare aluminium shallow spool
holds - 225yds of 8lb
ratio - 4.85:1
weight - 575g

mayoung is on a distinguished road
Re: Mitchell Avocet 6500

i bought one a few months ago they arent to bad for the price but they are very prone to corrosion so if you do use it for the sea as i do then make sure it is well protected and cleaned after use.

Re: Mitchell Avocet 6500

Cheers guys. I've also seen them advertised in Carp fishing mags. Think I shall use it as a marker reel / spare reel, for Carp fishing then & invest in a Penn Surfmaster.... It's a real shame, I can remember when the Mitchell name was a byword for quality. The Mitchell 300 & Match coarse models & the Mitchell 624 Boat reels were bombproof.
