Carrot Fibre fishing rods

Anyone see that article in last weeks Angling times about a couple of guys who have developed a new rod making material using fibres obtained from carrots I had to check the date to make sure it was'nt April 1st. Apparently they believe they can produce a fly rod that's superior to a carbon fibre one & cheaper too..... I wonder if it helps you see in the dark?

Re: Carrot Fibre fishing rods

is it a carrot or a stick??

any micro fibre will give a good result and something organic like carrot will be expensive to stabilise but I bet it will perform well, look at the leaps we have made with carbon fibre from glass fibre.

I believe I heard somewhere the first trials are to be done with Fly rods

Re: Carrot Fibre fishing rods

i wonder if they'd have special storage instructions coz they just
might go a bit soft and wrinkley if left in the veggie rack too long

Re: Carrot Fibre fishing rods

Does that mean that if you ever snapped/lost your tip section, you could just stick the butt section in a saucer of water and grow a new one?

I'll get me coat.

Re: Carrot Fibre fishing rods

I might have known - as soon as I purchase a new carbon rod (more on that in a few weeks) they bring out a new material for rods - Carrots

http://www.theriverkelvin.co.uk/phot...9307_carrot203

Two Fife scientists have developed a new material made from carrots to replace glass fibre found in everything from fishing rods to car parts.

Re: Carrot Fibre fishing rods

Perhaps we would see a lesser spotted donkey or a buck toothed wrasse appearing on the record books as well.
