Not long left for sea fish apparently There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a major scientific study. See here __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º>

Re: Not long left for sea fish apparently same could be said about freshwater fishing if you go by what in the angling daily,s trouble is angling has so many different groups IE: sea, game and coarse . then these are again further split into sub groups like flying fishing ,match fishing ,carp fishing, pike fishing etc . then these also have there own associations fighting there individual causes that no one really knows whether they are coming or going so nothing gets sorted in the end. sadly angling will never get united under one flag and will sadly get undermined by politics , pilfered by fish thieves and over run by tree huggers and animal rights tightlines Kevin ![]()

Re: Not long left for sea fish apparently My two-penneth: Looking at the report, the blame lays at the feet of the commercial fishing trade, but also the lifestyle of the Western World. Take a look at the evidence: The seas have been raped to sustain a lifestyle that has exceeded the resources it requires. This has nothing to do with angling. The effects of angling are minute compared to the damage done by commercial fishing. So who is to blame? We are. The human race that is, but namely the Western World. The hugest polluters are the USA. For every person on the planet to sustain the lifestyle that everyone in America enjoys would take 5 planet Earths to sustain. Scary stuff. Total bans on fishing will help the situation, but will not solve it. Why? Global marketisation. As long as there is money to be made from resources there will never be an end to the destruction caused by it. The human race has developed greed and is fed by it. The ultimate result is, as a race we have royally screwed up and it looks as though we can never claim the Planet back. A bit like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted. Rob

Re: Not long left for sea fish apparently i can't see it getting any better, until such time as the sea is so devoid of life that the trawlers don't go out any more i don't see any chance of recovery. blimey ! thats a bit depressing isn't it

| Re: Not long left for sea fish apparently Hi all, As a 64 year old foggy I shant be around to find out. I've been fishing for over 50 years and I have seen great changes in the fishing patterns during my time. Fishing stocks have gradually got worse over the years, and no doubt they wont improve unless something drastically is done. Only time will tell.
