Re: 207Lb Shore caught Common Skate...

Well even if they were fishing for them Mike and had the right tackle, from the shore i reckon you are looking around 3 hours, And once you play a fish over the hour mark it really does become a new ball game,These things will inflict so much pain on you that without witnessing it yourself it really is so hard to imagine,As you know i am of to Guinea Bissau in a couple of weeks and Richard Sheard who runs these trips will tell you about a certain mark where 7 of his clients to date have hooked and played a certain fish now for over 12 hours (no teeth marks so not a shark) we think its a Goliath grouper but only guessing as no one has yet seen this thing, and a very good friend of mine John Joyce who i nickname HORSE who is an incredibly strong man had this thing on for 1hour 50min before it shed the hook and it took him 4 days to get over it,once you get fish of that size on they inflict bruises on your bruises, without seeing it with your own eyes its so hard to imagine, these things really beat you up and even with all the adrenalin pumping through your system there is no shame in giving your rod to another angler for a well deserved break
I see in one of your replies to this post that you are thinking of a wee expedition yourself, well if this becomes more of a likelihood and not just a dream please keep me in mind if you have a space for a SIMPLE MAN,i have the rod but nothing else, but that can soon be sorted
Good luck mate and keep those posts coming
Regards John
