Trout & Salmon's so-called 'magazine'

Just been through my April 2011 issue of T&S. Anyone else had a look at the 'FREE 44-PAGE MAGAZINE' that came with it? It's no such thing. It's a catalogue. And the content has been taken from other catalogues. Word for word. Picture for picture.

Apparently it also went into Trout Fisherman magazine.

All I can say is things must be bad to put your name to something that's nothing more than a glorified - in fact not even glorified, blatant - catalogue.

George

Re: Trout & Salmon's so-called 'magazine'

They make their money from advertising and from us punters buying their mags. But if it is a catalogue then say it is a catalogue not a magazine. Personally, I find it demeaning.

So what is it that prompts you to buy a magazine? Interesting articles? A good read? Or do you just like the adverts?

Re: Trout & Salmon's so-called 'magazine'

I totaly agree!

A month or so back the Anglers Mail had a free 'Tackle pull-out'. Being of a pretty reasonable education standard, I understood this to be perhaps a tackle on test type thing, maybe some pointers to new tackle available etc.

No such thing....just a catalogue from a big high street tackle shop!

They should state what they mean in a little more clarity instead of trying to sell a magazine on false pretences.

Re: Trout & Salmon's so-called 'magazine'

Same as Sea Angler, I used to buy that but don`t anymore. They have slowly whittled away the magazine contents to a few fishing reports, a tide table and a summary that has been coppied year on year as to whats about!!! They even tried bigging it up a while ago by saying it was "NEW AND IMPROVED" and "OVER 150 PAGES" but what they forgot to mention was that it was all adverts for top end gear. It is basically a carbon copy of many other magazines from the past now just with far less content!!! Don`t even get the weekly freebie anymore!

I find these sites 1000% better for info and advice, they are on the pulse, upto date and you get a honest answer to a question without some company being thrust into your face as being the best!!

Re: Trout & Salmon's so-called 'magazine'

Has anyone noticed, that a lot of the big newsagents and supermarkets no longer stock fishing magazines? I gather it`s not PC to do so anymore, too barbaric. I used to buy Fly Tying Monthly, by subscription (couldn`t find it in any of the shops), but stopped, when it became hunt the feature among the ads.
