| Re: The Anti's Strike Again Glad everyone was interested in the thread. I went onto the fish feel pain website mentioned and I'm scared. She is comparing eating a fish to cannibalism! Worrying to say the least. She also answered my next retort , well almost. Jesus' best pals were fishermen- now if they were doing something so horribly wrong I think he may have mentioned it to em. She says Christians shouldn't eat fish because it is the most polluted thing you can put in your body- what about junk food then? And I would say for most of my extended families medical problems ( diabetes, under active thyroid, congenital heart disease, etc) the doctor has recomended eating more fish. At one point hubby was issued high grade pharmaceutical omega capsules ( eh fish oil) to make him better. Quick we better inform the medical profession- they are poisoning the people of Britain with fish! I DON'T think so!When did the consensus start listening to the extremists and not to the voices of reason? Welcome to Scotland, land of fishing, whiskey, smoking, highest heart disease and stroke rates in Europe, but we're free! p.s closet Pratchett fans well spotted in previous posts on the thread! __________________ Sometimes it's just not worth chewing through the restraints. | Re: The Anti's Strike Again Had a look at the PETA website too.... stuff about Christians shouldn't eat fish seemed very........well, just strange really. Then there's the stuff about the crime of feeding your kids meat. A lot of it seemed typical of the sort of scaremongering that we've had to put up with over the last few years. They have opinions and we have opinions. Some of their facts might be a bit dubious, but then, they're just fighting their corner. I don't deny them the opportunity to say this stuff, but I do get scared by how well it is marketed. Some celebrity might be a great performer or artist, but not know a great deal about law, logic, philosophy or science. However, if you hi-jack these media icons, people will take notice. I think its a bit like advertising insurance. If you make people scared that such and such is going to happen (when was the last time you heard of a drain collapsing - in someone's garden ??) then they'll pay the monthly premium and the insurer lays this off against a higher, more real risk to ensure a profit. There are people who no doubt take great comfort in insuring their drains, just as there are those who take comfort in knowing that foxy is now slightly safer. But have they considered the full scenario, the likely cause and effect, the probabilities for themselves, or have they just been taken in by the seductive marketing, propped up because Crinkly Winklebaum or someone supports it ? Few of us can deny how well it (marketing) works - the old saying that fishing tackle catches more fishermen than fish is very true - I don't NEED seven different rods after all !! |

| Re: The Anti's Strike Again PETA website looked into now. Oh well where do you start? Don't eat meat, fish, any dairy products, have pets, have a halifax credit card, support the British Heart Foundation, buy any car except the new Merc thats 100% leather free, eat blugill fish caught in Texas ( they are full of Prozac whooo happy fish!), eat KFC( they kill chickens you know), support any kind of racing and don not wear fur, leather or WOOL . I have found a new friend on our side The Centre of consumer freedom . They are kicking PETA's butts. And the Countryside Alliance is selling car stickers for the 'Fight The Ban' on fishing campaign for a £5, a good way to make our cause known? Maybe someone can come up with a standardised letter that we could all send to our local MP's to make sure we're all heard. I'm away for a KFC......oh colonel I love you so....... __________________ Sometimes it's just not worth chewing through the restraints. | Well said, Miles. Really funny as well. I have always detested cruelty but, like you, find the idea of animal rights a bit ridiculous. Not only do rights involve responsibilities, which as you pointed out is a daft concept to apply to animals, but rights are also something that you have to be able to defend, which by and large animals are unable to do. I too look forward to the introduction of income tax for animals and I also suspect that if PETA have their way we may soon have animals in Parliament. The sound of braying sheep would probably be not a lot different from what we hear now. If we were serious about animal cruelty we should first of all ban battery chicken farms and then many of the other commercial cruelties. Before that though we should ban cruelty to humans and introduce a pension which the elderly can live on. Hope I don't sound like "Wolfy Smith". From my experience most anglers have great respect for fish, and the environment, and we need few lessons from PETA and their ilk. They are as entitled to their views as us and the lesson we need to learn is to argue with them at every opportunity. ![]() |
