| Re: The Anti's Strike Again If you all had been reading the papers, listening & watching the news over the past few years, the scum of PETA(People for the Ecthical Treatment of Animals). Have been in & out of the news for years. Their goal is for No-one to have any animals as pets,i.e.cats,dogs,goldfish,etc. One of their biggest benefactors is the foundation set up by the late linda Mccartney(Paul Mccartney's first wife). |

| Re: The Anti's Strike Again Quote:
I must admit I don’t carry much of a political view on any of this and I am in no way as clued up with all this as others on the forum BUT I do hate it when all that our fore- fathers fought for is being lost to a dictatorship. Don’t get me wrong, I was neither for or against a ban on fox hunting but what I would say is, leave our damn countryside alone and let those who know it best deal with it. We have seen the effects of government involvement in our countryside eg. poor feed which was ALLOWED to be fed to herbivores that contained sheep’s brains for god sake, and less we forget those gruesome sights of those burning cattle and now we have this thing called Sudan1, whatever that is that’s being fed to us! I don’t know about you guys but I’m starting to feel like a human guinea pig that’s having all my rights taken away from me! People died for freedom……..How about we had some? | Re: The Anti's Strike Again Hello All For my tenpennorth, I'd just like to ask everyone this (especially in the light of the recent hunting ban, about which I (peacefully) protested last year): There are many instances of cruelty to animals, and for that matter, humans. Some laws exist to prevent and enforce acts that are considered cruel or unfair. There would however seem to be an increasingly vocal group who want to extend this, whilst introducing a terrible bias as a result. I think, to be be fair, if the government is going to back any more restrictions on what we can or can't do, then we would have to have a complete ban on all forms of activity, 'sporting', commercial or otherwise, that includes any sort of perceived 'cruelty'. I think this needs to be looked at very closely and, as a result, we should insist that if fishing, hunting, shooting, coursing etc. becomes a criminal act, then so too should livestock farming, all forms of commercial fishing (and a ban on other EU countries fishing in our waters), and as a result of this we should close butchers and fishmongers. We should stop all forms of animal (and human) testing and furthermore shut down all of the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and detergent industries in the UK. We should of course ban pets and as a result of this prevent those with sight disabilities from having guide dogs. In fact, we should all just go around being very nice to each other all day and give all animals the right to vote and the ability to claim benefits. Following this, we should then make animals pay taxes at the same rate as we do. You see, if you want to give (apparently) non-sentient beings thoughts, feelings and generally patronise creatures in an 'anthropomorphic' way, then the animals concerned should also abide by the same rules, regulations and responsibilites that we do. Foxes that wantonly kill hens and sheep should be tried in a court of law and be punished for their crime, for example. The cormorant that eats fish should apply for a licence to do so and only within its natural habitat at sea. I've gone on way too much already, but I think powers that be must be very careful when they categorise something as cruelty. They must also be very careful when they start to talk about 'rights'. I'm surprised that this whole issue hasn't been opened up further and really, properly investigated, because the simple logic is that we are in danger, in some instances, of putting animals before ourselves. We can't allow foxes to be chased in case they suffer and we can't allow people in fifteen sorts of agony to be assisted with their own death. I'll probably get banned from this site now, but if you've read this far, thanks for listening ! I'm beyond anger now, I just know for my own self that these anti campaigns are mostly about self-publicity and insecurity. Laugh and fish on. I am however disgusted to hear that children have been pushed into the sea because they were fishing. What cowardly, bullying, cruelty is that ? |

| Re: The Anti's Strike Again 1 other thing to consider there are what maybe 4-5000 people who are affected by a ban on fox hunting(stable persons ,pack keepers, hunt helpers and the like ) not counting the folks who ride who can ride the horse's anyway whats 5000 votes to any party when spread over the whole country now take the number of adults in the whole country who fish /keep fish in tanks/keep cats /dogs/hampsters and what ever and whats going to happen if you try to aleinate that many people, what do you get a new gov @ the next election a small easy target is dead meat (sorry no pun intended about miles's post - which was very well put BTW )the largest "sport/method of feading your famliy" in the world is a bit of a bigger challengeand as my dogs like to go fishing too thats double trouble __________________ cant garden or work on my cars so its time to fish:) |

| Re: The Anti's Strike Again Thanks Pingu. Just re-read Fishing Widow's opener. Have PETA really got £30 million to waste campaigning against angling ? You could build a hospital with that and have a bit left over to build a vetinary surgery. I think its these sorts of decisions that need questioning. |

| Re: The Anti's Strike Again Thanks Bazw You're right - hunting is a fairly minority activity - and despite being (wrongly in my opinion) seen as something only for the wealthy, it is a highly visible 'target' and one that is easy for the antis to hit. Angling is a whole different matter. I think the commercial fishery argument (i.e. ban them before you ban us) protects the sea anglers quite well and some large 'dedicated' tackle companies help to add weight to our cause. I think what really saddens me is to see The Green Party, who have some quite credible policies in some areas (again, in my opinion) list banning of angling in their manifesto. |

On and on I go.....Rant rant rant......but hold on......we are almost there folks! Oh and scanning through the news on my fav website, I see that a barrel of oil has hit an all time high at $51! Here you go Blair.....my polished bu**cheeks are parted. Kiwi. __________________ Kia ora / Dia dhuit. - Matauranga kei ana kaha.
