| Out on a shout The week starting 17 January saw RNLI lifeboats launching on service a total of 59 times, with all weather lifeboats launching 25 times and inshore lifeboats launching 34 times in conditions up to force 9. Oban lifeboat went to the rescue of a drifting trawler on the evening of 19 January. On arrival, the lifeboat crew towed the vessel into safer waters. Swanage’s all weather lifeboat went to the assistance of a motorboat with engine failure on 22 January. The lifeboat launched and was alongside the casualty vessel in just over 10 minutes. Due to the forecast of increasing Easterly winds the boat was taken in to Poole rather than back to the lifeboat mooring at Swanage.
