| Crab traps I read recently in the angling press that a council somewhere up north is taking an angler to court for using old tyres to trap peeler crabs. Apparently it's OK to set traps, but there're doing him for abandoning old car parts! It will be interesting to hear the outcome of this one as it will raise issues for a lot of people & may have an effect on peeler crab supply. __________________ "The fish and I were both stunned and disbelieving to find ourselves connected by a line." | Re: Crab traps Just a thought, if he is going back to thr traps and perhaps changing their lcation, then he is not abandoning them?? Just using them, a form of re-cycling?? |

| Re: Crab traps Some idiot jobsworth at the local council no doubt. They have a mobile CCTV van round here that goes around taking pics if you leave your bin lid open by half an inch. Next thing you know you get an 80 quid fixed penalty through your letterbox |

| Re: Crab traps Hi all, I recently found out about crab traps in my area, which are in the main upturned roof ridge tiles. Got speaking to the harbour master, who stated that under a by law (not sure if it was just a local one) you could set the traps but had to go back to them within 48 hours, otherwise you would be classed as having abandoned them. I could understand this for actual traps ie animal goes in, gets stopped from getting out and will die from starvation/drowning or whatever, but when the trap is just a place to shelter whilst moulting I can't believe he was right. Still, what do I know. I can sort of understand that going down the local estuary and putting dozens of car tyres in the mud at low tide, could be frowned upon, but a word in the blokes ear would surely have been sufficient to deal with it. | Re: Crab traps I'd ask for clarification on this from the harbour authority. They are not traps anyway , more refuges. As you say they can get out any time they want so the only thing he might have a gripe with is people leaving tiles all over the place and not collecting the bait. Leave them uncollected long enough and all that's likely to happen is that somone else will empty them anyway. That's my view though I migh add it is just an opinion not a statement of knowledge. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Crab traps I, like many many folk here, use a double ended net about 15m long and in about 20 - 25m of water, completely legal here and we get everything from crab and lobster to cod, flounder etc. We check every 3 days and only use when needed. __________________ I found this beautiful winter poem and thought it might be a comfort to you. hope that you enjoy it too.
