How to make cheese paste for Chubb Hi, after my first year back in fishing and having caught 7 species thanks to a good few tips from members on this site. Including investing in an unhook mat. You can see some of the fish at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/themeekies/fishing.htm I would like to have a go at Chubb to add to the list. I have seen some DVDs etc and managed to work out most of the baits but I cannot get any idea on how to make cheese paste. Is it as simple as bread crumbs and grated stilton? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Graeme Cut bait or Drink beer!

Re: How to make cheese paste for Chubb got some nice fish there graeme , i have used cheese paste a few times for chub and indeed for carp in days gone by it was a custom to make up some normal bread paste and then knead some cheese into it, nowadays with processed cheeses being common your possibilities are endless, i have heard that stilton makes a very agreeable paste for the chub,my favourite of recent times is the processed cheese slices,( the ones you put in a cheeseburger ) ,i take about 10 or 12 slices and simply keep kneading it until it is a sticky blob , then you can break off whatever size lump you need, when you are chubbing don't forget the humble lobworm and breadflake, chub just find them both irresistable best of luck mate, let us know how you get on.

Re: How to make cheese paste for Chubb Hi fishypaul, thanks for the tip on the cheese paste. My mate and I are out on Tuesday after some Chubb on the River Nene. We have got lobworms, Chubb paste (made with trout pellet powder, 2 eggs, halibut fish oil and olive oil), I will make up some cheese paste thanks to you, bread and luncheon meat. We may not smell to great but fingers crossed. Graeme

Re: How to make cheese paste for Chubb In the spirit of sharing the knowledge I found another recipe for cheese paste. Take 4 slices of white slightly stale bread and cut off the crusts. Add around 250g of blue cheese and knead the cheese and bread together until they bind and form a smooth paste. This can then be broken of into chunks that can be wrapped around your hook. No idea what it is like but will give it a go that is if the blue cheese makes it into the mix…..Hmmmmm blue cheese! Graeme

Re: How to make cheese paste for Chubb Hi fishypaul, Got out today on the Nene. I had been given the location of a prime spot to fish for Chubb but it was already taken. I spent most of the day trying to find the fish as I walked along the river looking for good spots but had no real success until I tried a weir pool. I managed to get the worm into some slack water and within 10 minutes I got a bite and managed to land my first Chubb . It weighed in at 2lbs 14oz so I am over the moon. Thanks for the advice on bait. I did try the cheese paste etc and got a few taps but did not manage to hook anything however; the main thing is I got my Chubb count started.Regards, Graeme

Try making a paste from Danish Blue cheese & fresh white sliced bread. I mixed some up a few years back, stored it wrapped in clingfilm in my taclke box & it kept for about three years. The smellier & moldier it gets, the more the Chub seem to like it. Works for Carp too. __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org

Re: How to make cheese paste for Chubb Hi Greenhart, cheers for that. I did use danish blue and some white bread, I was popular with the dog but the rest of the family were none to pleased. I only made it up the day before so looks like I need to prep some well in advance. Hopefully next time I will get into the Chubb hotspot and try all sorts to see what happens. Regards, Graeme
