Wind speed/Direction monitor

This may seem a bit OOT, but..... i've got an outside Temp. monitor, going to get a Baromitor and now the only thing missing is wind monitor.

Weather forecast is ok, but it really varies around here and can change in an instant

I'm looking for something a bit better than a Weather Cock to attach on an ariel type pole on the gable end (sounds grand, but it isn't!)

Any suggestions?

Barrie

Re: Wind speed/Direction monitor

Not sure what you could use but there are marine type anemometer for fitting on boats that you could possibly use ?

I have a great one - called the local incinerator - about a mile away but has to have a mega tall steam vent which churns out clean (so they say) steam/smoke and as it is well above all the buildings in the city - can see it from my bedroom window & gives an instant indication as to the wind strength & direction !
