Smile Tewkesbury ????

Good Morning chaps,

Due to an accident I have had to ease back on the Fly Fishing.

So I've recently bitten the bullet and gone drowning maggots (and corn and bread and cheese) with the Father in Law.

It will come as no surprise to those who are expert at this side of the glorious art, that we had a really good weekend and (excuse the pun) now I'm hooked.

I was reading some of Richard (Admin Bloke)'s posts and one said you fished the River Severn at Tewkesbury.

I have a day off on Friday 29 Sept and would welcome the "Where" and "How" and permits and parking etc.

I am very new to this but I have the basics, stool, thermos, box for keeping pies cold.

13 Feeder rod, reel with various spools and sizes of mono. hooks down to size 20, box of mixed swan shot, crystal and bubble floats, trout landing net.

I think I'm set, you will know different.

Help me out guys.

Thanks

Regards

Malc =

Re: Tewkesbury ????

Hey Malc, I never fished the river but read some good reports on it. Looks like you all set, good luck and tightlines. Looking forward to your report.

Re: Tewkesbury ????

Mate cannot make it as work fridays

THe waters I fish are all club waters and to be sure I do not know what stretchs are day tickets

If your after some easy fishing on a day ticket were there are some good chub then the sharpness canal at the pilot pub is a day ticket just feed maggots and hemp and you should bag up

The severn is much harder and require more feed . THe Avon around tews gets alot of boat traffic at the weekend but I find that shredded meat mixed with crushed hemp feed in to a funnel web ( add corn if your using it for hook bait ) does the job

Let us know how it goes and we will have ot meet up mate

Smile Re: Tewkesbury ????

Good Morning,

Thanks for the replies and good wishes folks,

The Pilot sounds good, tickets from the Fishing Warden or Gloucester Angling Centre I'm guessing.

And

Maybe joining a club is the way forward.

The F in Law has been a club member in Watford since before the flood and his Dad before him.

I never thought to join one before but then I never thought I would enjoy teaching maggots to swim either.

From my days as Patrol Officer on the River Severn and G & S canal I seem to remember Kidderminster Anglers had some fishing towards Stourport.

I'm on the case now.

Groucho said, "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member."

More later.

Thanks again

Regards

Malc

Yes mate

if you want to catch fish at the pilot an easy spot is from the bridge walk up stream to were there is a cut in for the boats ( the old marina 300yrds) get on the corner and fish the first ledge out which is about 25 foot of the bank but use a plumet to find it . Hemp and maggots every cast work well but if the first ledge does not work then fish under your rod time just feeding a feww maggots every few mins..

THe great thing about fishing the pilot stretch is when youve finished your fishing you can have a beer at the pub

Dam I wish I was off now
