if you have a rachet (may clicker) you can do what i do and just put reel into freespool and put rachet on then when you get a bite it will let line out and clik so you know you have a bite

only works with multis thow not fixed spools

But dont think you have a bite every time you rachet goes cause the tide or weed often takes the line off th reel when doing that down my way! I would go for loosening the star drag and switching the rachet on that way you can choose the tension you need for the tide!

Thats good cause some places down this way its a pain in the arse if you have you drag set to loose!! but if the tide was not runnng so fast it would probably be easier to do it the way surgested eh? all depends on the location i spose!
