Need advice.........

I'm kind of new to fishing and I was looking into a new reel and rod that wont break the bank so far Ive been looking into the Quantum Catalyst PTi spinning reel and I basically only catch bass and bullheads and was woundering if I should get the
(5.2:1 25" 9.6 OZ 6 LB/140 YDS) Or
(5.2:1 26" 12.3 OZ 8 LB/160 YDS)

The biggest fish Ive caught was a 22in bullhead and I'm not sure what the weight was or what size line I was using all I know was that it was a cheap $20 Shakespeare reel rod spincast combo. I was thinking that the 8lb/160 yds it a little much and not worth the extra weight....... But is their any reccomendations you guys could give me? I just found this http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse Good deal??

Re: Need advice.........

Hi

Have not used the Quantum Catalyst PTi Spinning Reel , but have had a look and it looks a great reel

Quote:
The Quantum® Catalyst PTi™ spinning reel is constructed with a thinline aluminum body that's designed to reduce weight without flex. The titanium bail is super elastic, light and thin and the multi-pole magnetic system accurately and consistently positions the bail open and closed each and every time. The ceramic drag system helps provide a longer life and greater heat dissipation under any load you throw at it
I would go with the (5.2:1 26" 12.3 OZ 8 LB/160 YDS) its only 3 oz more and you soon get used to the extra w , the reason being it has more scope for use

Oi OI,
Whichever reel you go with I'd recommend using braid as your main line, especially if you're spinning or lure fishing. This give maximum control over the lure & maximum feedback to you. For pike fishing take a look at Berkley Whiplash in 50lb, I find it unbeatable, though if you're going to launch jerk baits, step up to 80lb. Also, if lure fishing is going to be your main persuit, go for a baitcaster or small multiplier reel. This way you don't get line twist and it's more direct, so again you have more control over the lure.

For rods, I'd go for a 6'6" fast action, suitably rated of course. You can use these all day without getting fatigued. Check out the St Croix range or get one custom built, you won't regret it.

Be lucky.
