Re: floater ban yes there is twiddler its called a zig rig and i use two variation of the same rig i hope the diagram and my explanation on why and where i would use either . fixed zig rig ![]() ok as you can see from the diagram i hope ,that the line comes direct of the lead and is set for just under the surface and this is where i would use this rig only . but you must mark the right depth correctly then a coulpe of tweeks will have this rig set just under the surface layer. this rig can be devasting especially if the carp are used to being caught off the top and become wary this rig is set just under the surface layer and the carp are more confident in taken it i,ve had some awesome catches and my best session came on a water when fishing at a depth of 10ft and fishing the bait aninch under the surface of a fixed rig with a hook link also just under 10ft and i caught 19 carp with a mate in under two hours heres a couple of the 20lb plus carp we had in that hectic two hours ![]() you can just see the yellow 20mm pineapple pop up boilie just under the fishes tail . ![]() i have fished this at depths of up to 11ft straight of the lead but care has to be taken when casting these long length as you are casting this from of the ground or you can coill it up and cast out of a cup but not all waters are as deep so shorter length are easier to cast . running zig rig ![]() now i hope the difference is obvious but if not this is set up on a running link and i used this to medium to short range work as cast this a long distance has a tendancy to tangle thats the only draw back .however saying that when its set right it too can work very well . the idea with this version of the zig rig is to be able to search out the water layers as you don,t really know at what depth the carp are and the normal run of the mill carping is done either directly on the botton or on the top so this allow you to search out the middle layers( which get rarely fished ) by allowing you to pay line out and the small sunken float sunken float /or poly ball allows the rig to rise in the water and if you know the rig is set 3ft and you then pay a further 3ft you know you are fishing 6ft its that simple and that the other reason i use this over the fixed version is that on the fixed version i would have to keep cutting it down to search the layers so again you can see it has anadvantage . again if you get it right carp like this can be taken from mid water this one came at 5ft of the bottom in a swim that was actually 9ft deep now if i was fishing the bottom or top i would not have caught this impressive looking 27lb 12oz carp . ![]() now alot of people assume that this is a summer rig as you are fishing up in the water near the suface normally but i,ve found when it gets cold in the winter the carp lay at the depth where the water is the warmest so this rig work very well indeed searching out the layers and when i carp fish during the winter these two versions especially the running version are use frequently during the winter session so don,t dismiss or believe its a warm weather rig . i hope i,ve explain it well enough for you and i hope you can use it and it does pick of some aweesome fish as you can see tightlines kevin ![]()

Re: floater ban Thanks Kev, once again you were a GREAT help! Some fantastic looking carps there mate. I like the running rig, gonna give it a go next time, can imagen though it'll take a little getting use to casting it but I'm a sturbon cow I'll sream and shout and spit my dummy until I get it right. cheers Claudia __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving

Re: floater ban ok twiddler make sure you cast it smoothly this will reduce tangling on the cast but if you can over come this its a great rig to use . what i also do is if i know i have carp in the swim or know where there patrol routes are but do not know what depths they are at , i move it up or down every 20 minutes or so and remember what depth you are fishing it if you get a run . tightlines kevin ![]()
