Re: Eastern Europe I really can't see what the problem is here, providing the fish are not caught commercially and are of a viable size. We "Brits" also used to fish freshwater for our table, I've eaten carp & pike and although I prefer haddock, bass, bream etc. I'd eat freshwater fish if it was cooked expertly

Re: Eastern Europe I too don't have a problem as long as they are not just taking anything and everything. Pike make great burgers if done right!

Re: Eastern Europe well it sadden me that you think there is not a problem codhead well i tell you now just cause they aren,t taking form your local waters yet does not mean there ain,t a problem. my local waters the broads ,the rivers have been netted and so have parts of the drains systems on the fens they also put out dead lines at night . you know if they want to take the odd fish but they don,t they take every thing . they also in some area,s work in gangs especially on none bailiffed waters and they know were these are . but as its only certain area,s a lot of anglers thinks there not a problem trouble is we,ve allowed this to go on and it will only really get looked into when they start knocking big carp on the head from fisheries . tightlines kevin ![]()

Re: Eastern Europe Hi Guys. As some of you will know I moved over to Spain this year. As you would expect it is taking me some time to do my home work and to put the effort in to find the waters and the fish. I am slowly getting there. I have recently started to catch consistantly on some of the local waters (the lakes which are almost all dams are called Embalses). In all truth most of them are quite difficult to access without a 4x4. Which for me just adds to the fun. However at the areas that can be reached by car they are quite heavily fished by locals and Eastern Europeans. To say that they take everything home with them is an understatement. I have even seem some of the Russians take home Bleak. All of the Brits that I have seen fishing always return their catch which is normally made up of Small carp (1 - 2kg), Barbell, Zander and Black Bass, much to the astonishment of the locals. I have no problems with this either way. What I do know is that the larger fish are certainly around, but just as in the UK you need to adopt a more systematic approach to be able to catch these willy beasts. Hopefully I will track them down in the near future. I do know of a Embalse near Benidorm that charges 10 Euros a day to fish and is heavily ballifed. The Spanish will rarely pay to fish. It is alleged that the carp in there are up to 25kg. I am going for my second session their in the next week sometime so I will let you all know. Hopefully over the next few weeks I will put together some postings to let you know what the fishing is like over here, as well as the problems that I am having. Without a doubt my biggest gripe is getting good tackle and even more important good ground bait.

Re: Eastern Europe sorry i don,t understand the question as i don,t comprehend the english language apparently. so to try and make you understand the full problem would be futile at best. we can agree to disagree on this one as i can,t be arsed to argue with you . tightlines kevin ![]()

Re: Eastern Europe I think the problem here, like sea fishing is regulating what is taken and from where. The main difference is that right back to the Magna Carta, we have had the right to fish in the sea, and subject to modern day size limits we can keep what we catch to eat. A lot of lakes are privately owned and therefore the fish in them are also owned by that person, so anyone taking fish from there is totally in the wrong. It's a bit more difficult when it comes to canals/rivers/fens etc as they are open waters and fish can swim in and out of peoples area as they please. It would be difficult, if not impossible to stop people intent on emptying these waters of fish by the methods Kev has mentioned, and that's where the problem lies. I think unfortunately it's a clash of cultures, but I do feel that the old saying "when in Rome" springs to mind. If it is not really acceptable in the country you are in to do something you used to do in your country of origin, then you should respect that. Educating the people responsible is probably the only answer but whether the advice is heeded is another matter. Oh, and by the way guys, don't fall out over this sort of discussion, life is too short!! Thats my two pennies worth. Cheers, Darren
