Question Power gum, what's that all about?

Right, as you know I'm a bit of a novice so,
I use power gum for sliding stop knots but what is it specifically for?

Re: Power gum, what's that all about?

Power gum is for stop knots mate,i use it just above the hook to stop the bait moving during casting and also instead of crimps.

Re: Power gum, what's that all about?

Cheers,

I just wondered because it has a breaking strain and that seemed daft for something that is only used for stop knots!

Thumbs up Re: Power gum, what's that all about?

If your using a big lead or braid as a mainline powergum can be used as a shock absorber. A lot of feeder anglers who now use braid because of its non stretch properties and superior bite detection need a shock absorber to protect the hooklength. Also it can be used to actually attach heavy feeders for the shock absorber princible again on long casts. Hope this has been of some help, tightlines, BigDave.

Re: Power gum, what's that all about?

, weather its true or not i dunno but my m8 once claimed to have drunkenly ,in error, tied on some of the heavier powergum as beach shock leader.
i'd luv to have seen his otg cast,( from a distance ).

If you do any pole fishing. Next time you change your pole elastic, keep the old stuff to use for stopknots instead of power gum. Just as good & much cheaper....

Re: Power gum, what's that all about?

Also as most pole elastic is brightly coloured, its a brilliant distance marker and also it doesn't damage your line as much as power gum.
