another question i hope someone can answer!

ok guys today i went carp fishing

got to my chosen venue and noticed a sign on one of the huts saying they were carrying out essential work and so some of the swims were closed to anglers

''oh yea i thought there just gonna chop a few branches off trees no problem''

the baliff came round i paid my cash and fished

then about 3pm down came the owner and 2 of the baliffs and they proceeded to chuck tonnes (and i do mean tonnes!) of chalk into the water when i questioned them they said something about ph levels..

anyone know anything about this?

needless to say i didnt get a bite all day as they did one half of the lake yesterday the other half today im not sure if the fish were just spooked or maybe to busy grubbing around in the chalk?

but i am interested in what all that chalk does to the water and fish!

Re: another question i hope someone can answer!

If the water has become too acidic then it could effect the fish as most fish in this country like a neutral Ph, it could effect their breeding habits. The chalk will add alkali to the water and help the neutralise the Ph. It will probably take a few days to settle down and for the water to clear up.

don't understand the chemistry involved but it was a bit naughty taking your money off you with all this going on.
a half decent fishery owner would have explained the situation and given you a freebie or maybe 50% off

Re: another question i hope someone can answer!

well i was fishing so i was happy .. and it didnt put off the 10,000 + 2lb+ roach!! so i was still getting pestered by those blighters!

i reckon you could easily get 200lb + bags of roach in a day at that place its a wonder how those poor carp ever get to the food with them scavengers in there

but thankyou guys for clearing up the chalk bit hopefully the fishing will improve out there next week!
