Rudd on the fly!!

Been fishing my local pond recently and i noticed a hatch of small flies coming to the surface. As soon as the flies hit the surface they were being taken by fish, rudd? Has anybody tried fly fishing for rudd?

Re: Rudd on the fly!!

it is quite well known that the rudd can be caught on the fly.
in j.g. roberts 1957 book "rudd how to catch them " he devotes four or five pages to dry fly fishing for them with flies such as the red palmer, coachman and blue dun.
its interesting he says wet fly fishing is not worthwhile but that is one method i saw a guy using to great affect years ago,he was catching some very good fish on a small nymph and try as i might i couldn't find out the pattern he was using

Rudd can be great fun on the fly & certainly speed up your reactions when trying to hit a bite. Fished Revels Fishery in Dorset, earlier in the year. Had Trout, Rudd, Roach & Perch on wet & dry fly. Check out the link.

Revels fishery report.

Rudd are great on the fly. Most small black dryflies will catch them also i've caught them on quite large hoppers (size 10) intended for trout! also they can be taken on buzzers just below or on the surface. Enjoy catching them their lovely fish arn't they?
