Question £500 Burning A hole........

............. In My Pocket!

I Really Want To Buy A Pole That Will Be Ideal For Commercial Carp Waters But Will Also Be At Home On A Canal For Silvers.

There Are So Many Out There Within My Price Range.

Any Ideas On Which Pole It Would Be Best Spent On?

Cheers In Advance................

Re: £500 Burning A Whole........

i used to have a shimano techinium pole 12.5 mteres with exstention it was well priced at below £300 i personally thought it was better at 10m any further and it was difficult to use
now i only used to use it about 3 or 4 times a year but once the novelty wore off i sold ity and went back to a 12ft float rod

Re: £500 Burning A Whole........

once again - cheers baitmaster!

Are you suggesting that my money would be better spent on a top quality 12ft rod?????? ;o)

If there is a pole out there for £300 that would do the trick then I will have cash left over to buy both!!!

Re: £500 Burning A Whole........

no not at all i bought a pole and i really did not use it so i went back to using a float rod .
but you might like pole fishing and get into it there are poles around for that sort of money
but with the cheaper end of the market and pole can cost over £3000 you have to way up that it will be heavier to hold a bit more floppy the longer it is
i personally think poles are grossly over priced
well in fact i think all fishing tackle is grossly overpriced but thats my opinion
but i,m sure one off the pole angler who use them and have a greater insight into them will give you a different view on them
but for my own fishing a float rod is enough

Re: £500 Burning A Whole........

So very true about being overpriced!!!!!

I spoke to one of the guys at WMAC last week and he says all tackle is normally purchased by brand and thats why thety get away with pricing thier goods the way they do!

Its like trainers I suppose - I would not be seen dead in a pair of Shoe Warehouse own brands - I would opt for the more fashionable Nike TN's which would cost 10 times as much - even though the £9.99 pair would do the trick and possibly last longer!

Anyway I am avoiding the point of seeking the advice about what the best pole for the money would be!

Good debate though!

Re: £500 Burning A Whole........

on the point of named products especially in fishing i was that man in the tackle shop buyying all the latest tackle as long it was from one of the names ,
diawa. shimano. fox ect ect i was a tackle tart in a way i still am but now i buy products not for the look at me aspect, but because they do a specific job but i now will compare products .
now the difference with poles you want value for money and as angler i,m as intrigued as you to what a real proper all singing and all dancing pole angler looks for and what they would see as good value for money
but i agree it a good debate gadders

Re: £500 Burning A Whole........

Ok Kev heres the coup,

I go fishing once a month at the mo as i'm just getting back into the swing of things after about 7 years away from the sport to start a family etc etc etc etc etc - hence recent posts about a few bits and pieces.

I own a pole but its a 1997 model - I have just started up a newly formed Fishing Club of 13 members that are all either family, close friends or supporters of Fulham FC.

I really want to upgrade my pole as over the past 7/8 years they have come on leaps and bounds and mine even though does a job, its best days are behind it!

To start off the club, we have arranged 8 matches - one a month from March to October. So far I have faired quite well but I have some catching up to do.

We have a fair few Commercials in our fixture list but also 2 on the Baisingstoke Canal - all our fixtures are in and around the Surrey area.

I have £500 staring me in the face that I want to spend it on a pole of 13/14.5 mtrs and there are a fair few out there.

This is why it has to allow me to be able to handle medium sizes Carp (up to 8lb) and also with match kits that allow me to use it on a canal for betty smalls!

If anyone reads this and can point me in the right direction I would be most appreciated!

As for being a tart Kev - nah you ain't too different to me - every bit of luggage etc is black with red trim - even the clothes I were fishing - mainly Team Daiwa.

Gotta look the part on the bank aint ya mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
