What is a "dapping rod "?

its a method of skipping a fly across the surface! to resemble maybe a dadylonglegs (or watever) bouncing across the surface of the water!

sorry i cant help more but my knowledge of fly fishing is minimal as
ive only fished for farm bred rainbows at my local!

I always associated the fly fishing folk with tiny puny 6-7 feet rods.
It appears they have rods good for pole fishing

A dapping rod is a long rod that is used to present a live fly (Usually a daddy longlegs or mayfly) to trout. A very lightweight floss is attached to the main running line & a baited hook to the other end. The floss is then allowed to rise & fall in the breeze along with the fly. It then looks to the trout like a natural fly alighting on the water. It is used mainly from boats on lochs / loughs in Scotland or Ireland. It's very effective.
