Re: how quick would you jump in

im well trained in my job in the area of conflict managment
(head door superviser in spare time and rail search officer)

the thing thats maybe going wrong here is lack of comunication
without this it can appear that situations have potential to be heated
even to the point of a physical clash.
this is very rarly the case as most peaple ar just as windy of the
other person, as that other person is of them!
its only the reluctance to comunicate in fear of were its going to go

i surgest next time you bowl up with a friendly smile, ask him how he is doing (relax be friendly) then when ice is broken mention that you see him
around alot and that you have alot in common (ar ther that many z spesy hunter about) then mention that you had say cut that swim and you hope he duz well! make a joke, smile! most peaple at this point will make a half assed
suggestion of moving! this you decline, now drop in that in future you would like be able to go back to the swim you have cut! all friendly all smiley
maybe swap a hint or 2! unless he is a propper arogant peice of sh*t
he wont do it again!
if he is the later its war and take it to the next level, but before that comunication is the key.

i now take part in training ds and also clampers so i know my stuff!

Re: how quick would you jump in

I'd take it as a compliment Kev to be honest. This guys knows you catch a fair few good fish, so he's just trying to get some too. I doubt he'd be following you if he didn't regard you as a top Zed man and rightly so.

Why the problem with him using your swims? Okay, if he's doing it when you want to fish them, fair enough, but otherwise can it do any harm? If it was Dan or Barrie would you have a problem with it?

Give the guy a break, he obviously respects your skill mate, and like you say, he might even share the petrol costs!

oh, and as for this.

Re: how quick would you jump in

Semtex and a 12 hour fuse?

No seriously I think I would probably have a friendly chat and suggest you team up and work together to both catch a big zed. I know it's not always easy as most of the time I would much rather be a lone free fisherman that committed to joining up with others. Even lone wolfs do need to communicate with the pack though. It's up to you really. I guess you may have to fish elsewhere if it is bothering you.

Whatever happens them there pictures are pretty impressive. I almost want to go to the severn and have a go myself.

Go with your gut feeling, it's rarely wrong.

I like what geffski says. Give that a go.

That's a long trip you're making to end up fishing next to someone who lives near you.

He probably reads this forum too though! Lol!

Re: how quick would you jump in

I've had a sort of similar experience, on the Somerset Frome, upstream the Creamery, below Frome itself. Greenheart might know the stetch. Well I found a nice little spot, deep water shallowing into a mini rapid. It required some effort to fish. I had to creep along the bank, resting my feet on roots and holding onto willow braches, till I got to a point where I could rest on a tree trunk, an under hand flick often produced a fish, either a nice chub, nothing over 4lb, beautiful wild brown trout to about 2.8.0, (put back, only I never take wild trout), and a few nice roach, to about 10-12oz. The spot where I fished was screened by nettles, brambles and long grass, with a few seedling willows.
I had about half a dozen real nice evenings there, then one eve I got there and sombody had hacked out a direct path to the spot. Looked like abrush cutter had been used. The cover which shielded me was gone, no fish to be had. These small streams must be approached with caution. They are clear and quite shallow.
What was most upsetting was some fools appraoch was to just destroy the bank side. It was obvious how I was getting in to that spot. you did'nt need to be a gymnast to fish it. Real shame that some folk can't be bothered to make a little effort. I suppose it says something about the world we live in. Like the experience Zed hunting, some people can't be bothered to make an effort. A bit like fishing club working parties, some turn up everytime, and some turn up for fishing and expect everything done for them.

Re: how quick would you jump in

Sounds a little like something out of Jim Carey's CableGuy.

I have been in very similar situations to this a couple of times, - even cutting reeds out for a swim as you have done - and I can absolutely understand your frustrations. Unfortunately the bottom line usually is, unless you have a legal claim on a spot, there is very little you can do and like many things in life, inconsiderate people will always be there frustrating the rest of us.

I think what you do really depends upon yourself. For instance, if you prefer fishing on your own without the company of others, befriending the character may only encourage him even more, and lead them to believe you are fine with what they are doing. Whilst getting into a confrontation with the man may also make him more determined to pester you, as he appears to be doing...

I'm very sorry you have been pushed to the point of questioning if fishing is really worth it - but don't give in, I'm sure you'll find a solution...

Dave
