Fishing off the surface

Well the time is almost here - june 16th

I looking forward to getting the gear out and giving it a go on taking carp off the surface

My bait - I will give a go for a couple of days will be very fresh bread with a little bit of marmite smeared on it to set up a sent trail on a size 8-10 hook to a controller float fished in the middle of the lake were there is a lilly pad patch 40yrds

never heard of a controler float
whenever i have gone for carp i have gone on slightly windy days and you just use a size 10 hook with a bit of fresh bread and let the wind take it out across the surface
this way you get to cover lots of ground
only works though if you have the wind behind you, its not to strong and there aint to many things in the way
if not i just dampen the bread slightly to give it some weight and cast out, if you put to much water on it though the bread either flys off the hook or sinks

Drennan make them they come in various sizes 5mg 10mg 15mg


They are a great way of getting light bait out far

Draw back is that they spook the carp (big splash) So what I do is go down the night before see were the carp are patrolling and the next day cast to the spots

You can get some with fins on them that catch the wind so that your bait cover a great distance like the one for pike fishing dead/live bait

I love surface fishing if you use a very light controller you can wonder around a lake on a summers evening and have a good bit of fun

my dad always told me all i need to do is dampen the bread to cast out further though

i either use surface controller or bubble float

I've seen a video with the current british carp record holder or something, and he said that the splash of a float often attracts the carp...

attracts little fish but spooks carp

preditorial fish like splashes dont they??
im pritty sure if you threw a stone at a carp it would scare it off rather than attract it though, hvaing said that if you threw a stone at a preditorial fish it would prob scare it off

i think they just dont like 1 big splash but like things splashing along the surface like surface lures
