Buffers is on a distinguished road
Thanks and a couple of more questions

A big thanks to those who replied to my previous questions on floating dog biscuits and missed bites. I went fishing a couple of days later and caught to common carp between 8-10lb both personal bests. One off a wagler and sweetcorn, the other off floating dog biscuits. Haven't tried a hair rig though, but had a go at making a couple this weekend, so will see how they work out.

Just a couple of more questions,

a) am thinking of buying a brolly what size, make recommended? I want something light versatile and weather proof, don't mind paying between £30-40, Don't want to get into bivvies etc.

b) I caught the end of a John Wilson go fishing programme on discovery this weekend and he appeared to be using a bank stick that had a vertical section and an angled piece so that the unit supported all of the rod, rather than using two bank sticks, was I correct in what I was seeing? and if so who makes them and where could I get one from?

thanks in anticipation

Mark

Re: Thanks and a couple of more questions

Firstly, congrats on the carp, and I hope you catch many more in the future.

I have a wychwood brolly, 50inch with built in storm sides, perfect for summer nights and bad weather days. Removable centre pole so you can get a chair underneath. Cost me £40. New from Hansfords in fareham, think they do mail order as well.

I also have a JRC Dave Lane STI Brolly, which is more like a bivvy, bigger than the brolly, but as light as a nice light umbrella, plus you can put it up in about 60 seconds! Paid just over £80 on ebay for it, retails around 120 to 160 depending where you look.

Good luck.

Marc

hello mate, that type of rod rest is primarily for river fishing, more often than not on the faster flowing rivers, the rest holds the rod as high as possible to keep as much line as you can off the water and consequently you have less drag on the line from the flow.
i have seen these rests advertised in magazines, alternatively,if you log on to bennets of sheffield (bosfish,i think) i'm sure they do them.
