Mussels

I have been using mussels, in my local pond recently.

I have some fantastic bites, but just cant hit them.

I tried changing hook size. I let the float disappear.or I try striking instantly. but no luck.

I use a baiting needle to hook. Once I figure it out it be good sport

Any advice please

Lee

Re: Mussels

Are you using them on a hair rig or on the hook ?

If on the hook make sure the point is open of the bait

Its been a few year since I used mussel but I did find that its a under rated bait , thinking about it I did get a lot of bites that turned out to be small fish trying to do a hit and run on the mussel

Are you fishing over depth or off the bottom or on the lead

Oh and welcome to the fishing forum

Re: Mussels

Hi

Thanks for reply, I been using the bait on the hook and making sure that the point portrudes I have tried all sizes of hook. but not tried a hair rig. I have hooked a few fish that have been anything from decent size bream and roach upto a 15lb carp. but I get far too many bites and should be hitting more.

example yesterday tues 30/08/05

I was fishing with mussels and getting lots of bites but couldnt hit a thing. changed bait over to meat or maggot and not a thing, put mussel back on and the bites came back..

Many thanks for your reply
