Re: high protien baits and carp hi dave, there are some odd rules around these days, some baits you use perfectly legally on one water is banned on another, i would think high protien baits would mean trout and halibut pellets etc, i don't think cat food , hot dogs and luncheon meat will cause any difficulties. never fear, there are a multitude of baits you can use without problems. what about cockles, sweetcorn and pepperami. all wonderful proven baits, i think sometimes too much importance is put on these baits,we have had high protien and high nutritional value (hnv) and a few others, i think a lot of this is cobblers, the thought of a carp taking one bait more readily than another because it is full of protien just doesn't wash with me,if the bait smells right and looks right and the fish is feeding then it will take it. i think i might have drifted off topic here dave ,i'm going on holiday shortly as well, you're not going to cornwall are you,it would be great to meet up.

Re: high protien baits and carp I reckon it means oily sort of baits like Paul says, halibut pellets, trout pellets and MAYBE luncheon meat (is that oily, or just greasy )Some good baits Paul has mentioned, but don't forget the humble worm and maybe try a bit of stalking. Have a good holiday __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º>

Re: high protien baits and carp Wild carp were one of the species Matt Hayes had to get on the Great Rod Race. They looked like commons to me but there must be some kind of difference, I don't think you find them in many waters these days and, as the name suggests, they haven't been farmed at all.
