| I think the camels back has finally broke......what with all these mostly ridiculous( some neccessary!) bans appearing on our fisherys up and down the country. NO: KEEPNETS,BRAID,SEAFOOD BAITS,METHODS,SURFACE FISHING,BOLT RIGS,BREAD,BARBED HOOKS,NUTS,BOILIES,GROUND BAIT !!! When or were will it all end ? No hooks,no line,no rod??! Allright i'm as conservation minded as the next angler and i know there is a SMALL minority that blackens our name but come on eh ! What is banning nuts or boilies or bread or surface fishing and the like going to do to protect fish stocks from neglect and make them any healthier ?? NOTHING thats what !! All i can say is ANTI the ANTIS once and for all.......i better get off my soapbox now i'm getting dizzy!! ![]() __________________ "I LOVE THE SMELL OF ESSOX IN THE MORNING!!" | Re: The Antis ?? I guess the boilies, nuts etc. I guess are banned in places where the fish have started ignoring other baits. Likewise, too much groundbaiting in regularly fished waters can result in the fish being overfed and therefore less likely to take a bait, methods are really just another groundbaiting method so the same applies there. Keepnets are banned on many waters because of the distress they can cause fish, my local water allows them usually but bans them if there has been fish dying due to disease, reduced oxygen etc. Barbed hooks are banned for the obvious reason, I've just started course fishing again after many years and am using barbless hooks for the first time but I have to admit I prefer them for the ease of unhooking and providing a fish is played well it shouldn't be lost. Not too sure about braid, maybe the lack of stretch damages the fishes mouths or tires them too much? So, I guess the bans are down to a general welfare thing in some cases and in others to improve the sport on certain waters, don't think it is anything to do with the antis as the rules are made by the angling associations or syndicates etc. that run the water. |

Like i said ,the obvious ones are fair enough, but my opinion (and that of most anglers i talk to) all these "dont do's" are just getting out of hand. Now im a piker at heart but thats not to say i've never course fished 'cause thats were i started out and to me all the enjoyment is currently being sucked out of the course scene with alot(not all!!) of pointless bans, now you say that they ban certain baits cause fish start ignoring them ,well if they keep banning there will be nothing left to throw at a fish !! As for the barbless hooks i totally agree as i used semi and barbless when i pike which is all the time . The only point i was making was were will it all end......."ANGLERS MAY FISH ONLY WITH NETS IN THREE FEET OF WATER......BY ORDER !!" Have fun,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ![]() __________________ "I LOVE THE SMELL OF ESSOX IN THE MORNING!!" (Thats essox, not socks !!)

Re: The Antis ?? I don't think they ban baits because they ignore them, I think they do it because they ignore other baits. This appears to be the case with boilies in particular. Also, some high protein baits result in heavy fish but they are just bulk and don't provide the fight of smaller fish that eat natural foods. The one ban I would agree with you on is saltwater fish. Surely there is less likely to be diseases on them that will affect the fish than there will be with course fish dead baits? My fishing associations rules are live / dead baits from the fishery you are in or dead sea baits which seems far more sensible. Anglers will always be allowed to fish traditional methods such as worm / maggot etc. on the float or legered, a lot of the things like pellets and boilies are fairly recent inovations. Right, I'm off to tie a bit of string to my stick and put a bent nail on the end so that I can fish my local pond later .

Re: The Antis ?? im so pleased that i fish in a country were the antis have no voice, the only rule i have come across is the logical one of not moving fish from one water to another. everything else is allowed...you can groundbait as much as you want with whatever you want, use barbed hooks, braided line and any kind of bait you like. the time may have come for British anglers to stand up to the antis before our sport is destroyed in GB.....if we dont make a stand in Britain the antis flush with victory will go to the eu parliment and destroy sports fishing across a whole continent.

Re: The Antis ?? Yeah ,you might laugh now but i bet it comes to that mate !! LOL Im aware of the protein issue and i did actually mean that they ignore other baits......sorry !! My own fishing club which is predominately pike but also has roach by the thousand permits sea baits also and i think you are right about the cross contamination from course fish on other waters........sea baits must be cleaner you would think eh !! Cheers for now im also off to bend a few nails but remember and make yours barbless eh ! __________________ "I LOVE THE SMELL OF ESSOX IN THE MORNING!!" (Thats essox, not socks !!)
