Re: Help I'm Being Eaten!!

50% DEET is good, but I too have heard it can cloud the plastic lenses in glasses - an expensive mistake to make.

Thumbs up Re: Help I'm Being Eaten!!

Its all true. DEET can do a number on monofilament line too. Its best to use a spray, use your weak hand, take a few steps away from your fish eqp., Spray it on the back of your hand and then rub it on your neck and cheeks, Spray it on the underside of your hat brim if the bugs are still a bother. Maybe the best idea is to take your/a girl. She applies the sun screen & bug spray and you bait and handle her fish. Have 2 fishing towels, 1 only for washing and wiping after sun&bug, and the other for the rest.

Re: Help I'm Being Eaten!!

Don't waste your time with the citranella candles- those things don't work.
The deet solutions tend to be very good at keeping the mosqitos at bay. Just make sure you wash the stuff off when you are done. The higher the concentration, the better it will work. If you want to avoid using the chemicals, you can always resort to mosquito netting, and wearing thick bulky clothes. You can find mosquito netting (particularly for the head) at any camping supply store. BTW, the smell of sulfur [u]supposadly[/i] a mosquito repellent as well. I have never tried it, and don't know how to harness the power, but there may be a way.

Re: Help I'm Being Eaten!!

you tried the mossy coils that you burn and the smoke repels the bugs.

i never really get bitten but i don't seem to see any when it's burning. cleaner than creams and no contaninating bait, fish, etc.

Re: Help I'm Being Eaten!!

I haven't used those coils in years, I still have some around the house, just havent used them. I've only ever used them in the back yard.
Another idea, pray for just enough breeze to keep the bugs down, but not enough to impede casting. A bad day fishing,...........

Re: Help I'm Being Eaten!!

I just heard a few more things to try...
Rub yourself w/ Bounce fabric dryer sheets, even for babies, or one fella says he takes a vitamin B-1 tablet everyday from April till October.(?)
And last, around the house, plant marigolds mosquitos hate the smell(?)
