Lead Weights............

Am I still right in saying that LEAD weights are banned fron UK Rivers and waterways?
If so why is it that there are a lot of people out there selling LEAD weights for river fishing (Ebay).
I know that when I go river fishing, I have to use a substitute for LEAD.

Re: Lead Weights............

On most (if not all) lakes and commercials, they're banned. Not sure about rivers though..

Re: Lead Weights............

the alw is is that it has to be either over 1.3oz or under a size 14 shot (0.2g???) they are teh only lead weights allowed inbetween those weights it has to be a substitute, but that is only in britain, you may have seen some for sale from some-one in another country

Re: Lead Weights............

The listings I saw were for 2oz fresh water lead bullets.(in UK )
I informed the seller regarding there use on UK water - ways and rivers, and I only hope I was right in informing seller that they could not be used on UK rivers or water-ways...........

Re: Lead Weights............

Here in the USA, several states have banned the use of lead sinkers, but only some of them also banned the sale. That is because people buy them to use them in other places as well. Then even when it is illegal to sell them, you have a cult of people that just don't care. I personally don't use lead- though in my area lead is legal. I use Ultra Steel Bullet Weights which are a stainless steel item. They seem to work fine. Remember, when in doubt do what you KNOW is legal, NOT what you THINK may be legal.

As for what shot sizes are on shot sinkers, I always thought that they were the same as the shot sizes for Shotshells. I have included a loink to Griffen Howe, where a shot size table is located. I hope that this can help somebody!
