deep mark float fishing

tried fishing river this morning, had real prob with weed (and wildlife)
but my question is about fishing with a float on a deep pool
guess pool was about 15ft deep (my rod is 13ft) how do you overcome this extra 2 foot of line so as can present bait on bottom, and cast too it properly??
Iwas gonna do stop knot on line with a running float but top eye is very small and unsure it will go through smoothly
any help appreciated as looked the best place today and wanna try again

i use a stop knot made of fine diameter nylon,4 or 5 lb bs perhaps,
when i tie the knot i leave about inch and a half loose,(i don't trim the knot tight),
this seems to go through the top eye quite well,
it works for me anyway.
on the other hand mate,you could leger,or use a polaris float.

cheers paul had thought to ledger, but didnt want too break down set up so went to other area(it was a nice morning so fancied a walk down stream), not wanting too look too thick whats a polaris float?

its a sort of float leger system,you use your normal leger rig and the float is mounted on the line above it,
the float hangs limp on the line and after casting out it will float on the surface,when you slowly tighten up the float will cock,the tightness of the line locks it there.
you can set the height the float sits using the reel.
it is a sensitive way of fishing,when you get a bite it will either go under as normal or lay flat,
it is a good bit of kit.

its a lot easier to use then it sounds
