having just watched a fishing prog and also meeting others recently have got a wee bit confused re hooklengths when float fishing I have always just used the main line right throughfrom reel to hook and have 3 spools now with 3 different strengths 3,4 &4.5lb, so is it something to worry about what is the advantage of using lighter line?? after stronger??? also i guess is attatched above the float ??? any advise welcome dave __________________ 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day , Game on www.exmouthsaa.co.uk I have the body of a God, Pity its Buddha :-0

| Re: hooklengths hooklengths basics - Are about 12inches long and attach to your mainline Hooklength just saves you have several different types of LB spools thus saving you money i.e if you mainline is 6lb because you target barble and tench normally but suddenly want to go for roach then all you do is put on a 1.5lb hooklength ![]() __________________ Richard|Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |

Re: hooklengths get some berkley vanish 4lb line...the mullet will be feeding soon......if you want confusion i will happily take you mullet fishing as for hook lengths in the sea i use the mainline straight through for mullet i only use a lighter trace if im fishing hopesnose or something where i could get snagged up..a hook is much cheaper then losing the lot! but for the freshwater side of it i would agree with richard __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: hooklengths I just use mainline straight through. I think you have more chance of snapping up when a hooklink is added __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º>

Re: hooklengths it depends upon the kind of fishng yuou are doing, if float fishing for perch then 3lb would be fine to subdue most comers but if targeting tench or in a venue where larger fish are likely to come in I dont tend to fish any lighter than 5lb lowest I ever got is 4lb though so that might just be me I dont have confidence in all these light lines :S
