Angry bite alarms

as posted I went too a comercial fishery yesterday
had a great day but there was something there that was really peeing me and TJ off
BITE ALARMS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now this fishery bans radios and too much noise arround banks(should have also put a gagging order on the whistler on other bank then ) but not those poxy bite alarms , they were bleeping all day, cant they be muted or turned off!!!! especially when setting up thats worse than hearing a run

I fully understand their use at night( as better than piece of string too toe in bivvy ) which i am sure is what they were designed for

but surely they should be banned during the day when a visual aid can(and should) be easily used!!!!!!!!!!!, its worse than having a bad ring tone,

Now i know i have only just restarted course fishing after 20+ years(so before these things were invented!!) and sorry if this is another rant and sure others will disagree but I just found it so annoying when i went out for a nice quiet day fishing
Dave

Re: bite alarms

i can see what you are saying mate, but bite alarms are part of modern day fishing now
but anglers should relly set them so that they are only loud enough to hear from their own peg

i totaly agree dave, i think they are useful during the night but aren't needed during the day, i think they are just for lazy fishermen

Re: bite alarms

i too am fed up with the noise of bite alarms,i use them but i turn the volume down low enough so i alone can hear them not everyone else on the lake,
there is no need to have them turned right up.

Re: bite alarms

Same as everyone else.

I use them, but have them set at a volume, so I only I can hear them. Also, after casting out and setting the rods down, putting bobbins on etc.. I always have them turned off, and turn them on when I've finished

Red face Re: bite alarms

I can see the arguements on both sides, but I must say .. "banning" bite alarms ? a bit over the top I must say. I can see your point about the volume of bite alarms. Even if your'e as close as the next peg to the offender, it is basicaly too loud. Saying that though, they are part of our tools of our trade and have been for some years now.

Hopefully if everyone puts their opinions of the noisy bite alarms across in a cival and suggestive manner, then maybe others will understand that this is causing some upset.

I use bite alarms even in the day incase im kitting up another rod and miss a nice fish etc. If somebody "TOLD" me to turn it down, I would stand my ground if I am to be honest and ignore them. If I was "ASKED" to turn it down I wouldnt even bat an eyelid. I hope you get my point and hopefully other anglers will be a bit more considerate to noise polution in the future.

Re: bite alarms

If you need bite alarms to fish in the day with buzzers going of then how can you call your self an angler?

Angling is about understanding the water you are fishing, loking at the wind and und3erstanding it, the swim you are in and water movement. Its not about jumping to your rods inthe day to a buzzer sound. I like nothing better to fish a floating dog biscuit and watch the fish take the bait. Even when i ledger i use a quiver tip and a target board the old ways are the best, it makes fishing more enjoyable. I say if you use bite alarms try it without for once.

Just your opinion mate. Some people don't like too fish with quiver tips, etc.. It's the way the fishing's going, and some people will like it, others won't.

My favourite way of fishing is surface fishing with dog biscuits and bread, you can't beat it (just my opinion )

Re: bite alarms

knew this would get a reacion or two,
yes i know its the way people fish these days
yes i can see their worth
I think what really got me was the people who set them up then walked 3 or 4 pegs along too talk too their mates, knowing they wouldnt miss a bite!!!
anyway i'll try not too let it affect me so much next time
